my top ten k-dramas — twirling pages

i’m back with another submit! paradoxically, i feel that is probably the most blogging i’ve ever executed in a comparatively brief time period, and i’m scripting this submit in the course of the “busiest” time – finals season. thankfully, although, i don’t have many finals to review for, and since i’m completed with courses for the semester, i have extra time to work on blog posts 🙂 anyway, let’s get on to the publish!

in honor of asian pacific american heritage month, i assumed i’d share some of my favourite k-dramas (aka korean dramas) with you all! i received into k-dramas a number of years ago, they usually’re all the time just super cute and enjoyable to observe. although k-dramas are likely to have considerably predictable clichés and storylines, i really like them

10. dream high

dream high is technically the first k-drama i ever watched, so it holds a particular place in my heart

9. descendants of the solar

i feel like EVERYONE and their mom (actually, even my mom knows this drama) has heard of descendants of the sun, aka dots. track joong ki and track hye ko (who truly received MARRIED after this drama!!) are the primary leads of this drama, which additionally options jin goo and park ji gained. dots tells the story of a particular forces captain (music joong ki) and a physician (track hye ko) who fall in love at first sight however wrestle to make their relationship work. ultimately, they both end up in uruk, where she’s been assigned to a medical staff and he’s performing some secret mission stuff (again, my memory fails me a bit… please forgive me). principally, LOTS of action and drama– if that’s your cup of tea, i’d undoubtedly advocate dots!

additionally, the second leads’ love story is so angsty…. so that you’d better be prepared for plenty of frustration and ~feelings~ hahaha

eight. weightlifting fairy kim bok joo

weightlifting fairy kim bok joo (or just weightlifting fairy for short) is a more moderen drama that stars lee sung kyung and nam joo hyuk – they’re both super cute, so in fact, this can be a very cute drama! this drama is a few weightlifter (lee sung kyung) who at some point crosses path with a swimmer (nam joo hyuk). prepare for plenty of laughs! right here’s a style of what you’re in retailer for with this drama:

begin from 2:08!

7. struggle my method

right here’s another nice romcom: struggle my method (additionally referred to as struggle for my means). on this drama, park web optimization joon (considered one of my private favorites) and kim ji gained are childhood pals who encourage one another to chase their goals – and, in fact, they fall in love alongside the best way. he works on turning into a professional MMA athlete, and she or he tries her greatest to grow to be an announcer, like she’s all the time needed. their friendship and relationship is tremendous cute, and i’d say this is additionally a superb starter drama that’s newer than dream excessive!

6. what’s improper with secretary kim

…..and one other park web optimization joon drama! in what’s flawed with secretary kim, park search engine optimization joon continues to be as handsome as ever (lol), however he plays a totally totally different character: he’s the wealthy, good-looking, and conceited vice chairman of an organization with the right secretary (park min younger). in the future, she all of a sudden tells him he’s quitting, which he’s NOT okay with, so he tries to convince her to remain. regularly, they begin discovering a few of one another’s secrets and techniques, which makes this drama a bit darker than the opposite romcoms on this listing. nonetheless, there are numerous cute moments, and what’s mistaken with secretary kim is throughout a terrific drama, especially in the event you’re into workplace romances!

5. robust lady do bong soon

robust lady do bong quickly (also referred to as robust woman bong quickly, as on netflix) is one other hilarious romcom! it’s a few woman (park bo young) who’s cursed/blessed with tremendous power, and she or he meets a wealthy CEO (park hyung sik) (do you see a pattern? truthfully, i’m so uninterested in the rich man poor woman trope (pls stop) BUT i promise this drama continues to be v good) who hires her to be his bodyguard. on the similar time, she’s crushing arduous on her childhood good friend, who’s a really keen (aka tryhard) police officer (ji soo!). nevertheless, this isn’t your typical cute, lighthearted romcom – issues shortly take a darkish flip as the neighborhood experiences a murder, followed by a collection of kidnappings. all three of them work together to figure out who’s behind the crimes, so get ready for some suspense and action!

four. mr. sunshine

when you’ve learn my spring break publish, i talked a bit about mr. sunshine! i used to be launched to this drama because we watched the primary 30 min of it in my korean class, and i obtained hooked pretty shortly. the first episode (and in addition those that comply with) are fairly intense, and there are some graphic violence scenes, so this drama undoubtedly isn’t for the faint of coronary heart! the primary character (lee byung hun) was born into slavery in late 19th century korea, but escaped to america as a toddler and ultimately joined the army. about 20 years later, he’s assigned to return to korea, where he meets a nobleman’s daughter (kim tae ri). their paths hold crossing, and soon enough (shock, shock!) they fall in love.

this drama is a wild experience of feelings, nevertheless it’s so nicely made. also, all of the characters are so well-rounded and sophisticated (read: angsty), and i just love all of the difficult relationships (love triangles/squares/webs. when you like historic dramas and plenty of motion and emotions, i’d extremely extremely advocate mr. sunshine!

3. tomorrow with you

tomorrow with you is probably probably the most obscure drama on this record. it aired about two years ago, and this is the one drama i truly watched because the episodes have been popping out. as with most of the dramas on this record, it’s been a while since i watched it, however i keep in mind LOVING this drama, in all probability as a result of it made me cry so much. perhaps i’m a little bit of a masochist, however i nonetheless consider that the saddest books and films are one of the best!

this drama stars lee je hoon and shin min a, who aren’t tremendous tremendous famous (at the very least to not my information), however i actually favored their relationship/chemistry on this drama! the synopsis from asianwiki is basically confusing, but right here’s an excellent synopsis from dramabeans:

Who knew that touring by means of time might be as handy as hopping on a subway? tvN’s latest time journey drama Tomorrow With You introduces us to a fantasy world and a hero who knows what the longer term holds for him and one mysterious lady he’s someway linked to. Attending to know a woman gained’t be straightforward when solely certainly one of them is conscious of what lies ahead, but neither of them might be ready when one fateful determination opens up a brand new chapter of their lives.

from http://www.dramabeans.com/2017/02/tomorrow-with-you-episode-1/

principally, just prepare for a curler coaster of feelings! this drama is a sluggish burner, however so so good.

2. when you have been sleeping

ahhhh truthfully this drama virtually gained the top spot on this listing – i’m so so conflicted, but these two are undoubtedly my favorites! the one grievance i keep in mind having towards this drama is that it wasn’t unhappy enough (lol), nevertheless it was really really good apart from that!

when you have been sleeping (2017 version, apparently there are two haha) stars lee jong suk (POSSIBLY MY FAVORITE ACTOR??), bae suzy, and jung hae in (okay he’s not one of many MAIN characters but he’s one other fave)! suzy’s character retains dreaming about individuals dying and doesn’t know what to do to cease her goals from coming true. lee jong suk’s character, a rookie prosecutor, at some point all of the sudden goals about her and her mother dying and does his greatest to stop their deaths, despite the fact that they’re strangers. after he saves her, they get extra involved in one another’s lives, they usually begin working collectively to unravel totally different instances – this was considered one of my favorite features of the drama; it was tremendous fascinating studying more about legal instances! ultimately, jung hae in’s character (a cop) will get concerned too, and the three of them bond over their commonalities.

principally, that is just an AMAZING drama – undoubtedly a must-watch!

additionally, please take pleasure in this hilariously iconic scene:

last but undoubtedly not least…

1. goblin

goblin is probably many individuals’s favorite drama, and for good cause! this drama is just so, so superbly made: the production high quality is so excessive, the characters are so endearing, the story is so well-written, and it’s just critically superb. also, SO many feels – this drama will break your heart.

this drama is a few struggle common (gong yoo – such a tremendous actor) who’s killed by the king out of jealousy. nevertheless, he’s cursed to turn out to be a goblin, an immortal being who can’t relaxation till his bride ends his life. he waits 900 years, and one night time, he saves a dying lady and her unborn daughter (kim go eun). as the woman grows up, she will see ghosts, and she or he in the future meets the grim reaper (lee dong wook), who has come to gather her lacking soul. fortunately, she escapes and continues to reside a comparatively normal life. on her 18th birthday, she makes a wish, and the goblin out of the blue appears in entrance of her. ultimately, as they maintain assembly, he tells her that he’s her bride.

numerous loopy stuff occurs after that – there’s some cute moments, many hilarious interactions between the goblin and the grim reaper (who someway end up dwelling together), and plenty of unhappy, bittersweet endings. this is one other sluggish burning romance – there’s also a cute however angsty romance between the grim reaper and a lady (yoo in na) he feels unusually drawn to! however significantly, goblin is one other must-watch.

have you ever seen any of those dramas? which one(s) are you most excited to observe? let me know in the comments!

disclaimer: i don’t personal any of the photographs/movies in this submit!
